1. Introduction (from the original 1995 Read Me)
This is a four level map used with Marathon v1.2. It will work with other versions yet the terminal patch included will not work, therefore this adventure will not work. This is a single player level that should work fine with the original physics model. Please feel free to experiment with any or all of the levels. All I ask is that if you are going to repost this map anywhere, please include readme and patch, or just post the original sit or hqx file. Do not modify map and repost without e-mailing me about it first, as much time went into making it as bug free as possible. I would hate to have people sending me messages about bugs that were not in the original map. On the other hand, please let me know about any bugs you do find. I know there are a few that I can't figure out but they are non-fatal and unless you play the map as much as I have, you probably won't find the little bugs I'm talking about. Also, I love to hear general comments about anything (if you liked/hated/thought the difficulty was too easy/hard/just right/anything). Just one comment on difficulty. Since no one has tested this map except me, and I know where everything is, it's hard to tell how hard it is. My advice is to start at Major Damage and if you can't get passed the first level, turn it down. Good luck........
You are sitting in the long range shuttle Magellan thinking to yourself, 'Leela was right, this is a very long trip..'. All of the Marathon scout ships returned when the message was sent that the invasion was averted, except one. When the USS Raider, the largest of the scout ships, was not at its designated coordinated slight suspicion aroused. After a search was conducted, the Raider was spotted off course, and at such a long range it was only luck that it was found. Not knowing the nature of the problem, a specialist was chosen to recover the USS Raider. Only one person could be sent in a striped down long range shuttle, with not even an AI to keep you company. As you look out the shuttle window you can see a ship in the distance. Slipping into the battle armor you cherish, you mentally prepare yourself for the worst. The Magellan, basically a worthless piece of metal due to the overtaxing of its limited engines, approaches the aft section of the Raider. The damage looks superficial from the outside, yet you have no idea about the ships condition. Right before you leave Magellan in the escape pod, you remember your superiors orders: Recover the Raider at any cost. Thinking that those orders were cold, you pull the ejection handle. You maneuver the pod towards the hanger. Just then, as you pass the rear center engine, you see something moving in the observation tower. Not knowing what it is, you know that they know you are here. The landing is smooth, and you jump out, fully prepared for the unexpected. Nothing happens. You carefully take inventory of the weapons you brought:
2 Magnum Mega Class Pistols
1 Zeus - Class Fusion Pistol
1 MA75 AR
6 .44 Clips
4 Fusion Batteries
4 MA75 Clips
4 MA75 Grenades
As you look out in space, you see the objects moving in the rear tower. You wonder, if nothing were wrong someone would have been here by now. I think it's time to lock and load......................
I would like to thank My girlfriend for putting up with 'The Obsession', Bungie, Steve Israelson (pfhorte rules since this map was created with v1.0d12 and 1.0d13), Dan Walkowski (mia's cool too v1b17), and everyone who posts on csmg.
Any questions about anything I did please e-mail brew@carina.unm.edu
Also, if you like this and you haven't seen my first map Athens Outpost, you can download it from any of the usual sites.
Thanks

Please dismiss the first part of the original Readme about the terminal patch and what would happen if it not applied. This is irrelevant for the M1A1 version.

Jim's second solo scenario USS Raider, a four level scenario, was released on the 1st May '95. Created with Pfhorte (v1.0d12 and 1.0d13) and Mia (v1b17) it was to become the most downloaded Marathon map at the Marathon Hyperarchive Northwest when download statistics were kept by Claude Errera during '95 and '96.
4. Changes
Aft Section: the trap with the damaging polygon (#180) was turned into a teleporter, because there are no editor available at the time to enable damaging polygons.
Engineering: again, the trap with the damaging polygons (#91 through 98) was turned into a teleporter, and the other damaging polygon (#137) was turned into a normal one, for the same reasons as above. The 3 special control panels were turned into platform switches, because that's the only way they worked as repair switches.
Bridge: the special control panel was also turned into a platform switch for the same reason as above. The satellite dish that was supposed to be seen through a window on the higher part of the ship (polygon #233) doesn't appears because that scenery item is not included on the sewage texture collection and creating a shapes patch would have required creating a separate shapes file just for the scenario, among other painful things.
Brig: The juggernaut room's ceiling (polygons #124 and 125) was raised 0.5 WU to give the monster room to move. The depth of the lava pool (polygons #5 through 17) was lowered several WU to avoid monsters to jump down the lava when the bridge was still down. It worked, except when half the bridge is raised: the monsters jump over the other half of the bridge that's still down and get incinerated - it's kinda funny to watch. The failure message was removed from the terminal because the #FINISHED tag doesn't allow more than one message. So code 57 won't be initiated ever, no matter how much Bobs you kill (although I'm sure some wicked souls out there would have liked the Raider to self-destruct at the end, making all the sacrifice in vain).
Finally, the orientation of some monsters was changed as well as some polygon types, for a smoother game experience.
